“This empty chair is more than a seat, it’s the childhood stolen, the father absent, the family broken by a wrongful conviction. Justice delayed is a family denied.”

A Closer Look

The medical report

Wendell's case is not a case, it was not even a crime. He was charged for murder when the victim died from aspiration not strangulation. The medical examiner got it wrong. He has sit in prison for years, when another examination was done, they found that she was never strangled.

From Wendell:

If it wouldn't have happened to me, I never would have thought that such highly respected officials in St. Louis County, would blatantly lie on someone's autopsy report just to obtain a criminal conviction. I didn't think this nightmare of Life without the possibility of parole was ever going to end, until I realized that God had been answering my prayers all along. First, he brought my first love back into my life (my mother) I was just a toddler when she abandoned my three sisters and I. No hard feelings I told her, welcome back. Second, he allowed me to reconnect with my son after years of shame, fear and guilt. I'm so proud of the man that he has become, despite my absence. So, then I asked God to show me how to prove my innocence. And just like the many miracles we read that Jesus performed, God has brought all of the right people together to show that confidence in my conviction is unreliable, because Ms. Whitmore's death was truly accidental. Convicting me was malicious, vindictive and way too easy. Not just because I'm poor or black or a highschool dropout or my previous run-ins with the law. But because, there is always a small percentage of the State officials who are so corrupt and is willing to violate the Constitution of the United States, for various reasons, its disgraceful. However, this won't discourage me from appreciating Law and Order, we all deserve fundamental safeguards against terror and tyranny. It's about having integrity, not allowing our emotions to dictate our actions. If there were laws requiring all criminal investigations to be reevaluated by a federal agency prior to the commencement of prosecution, there would be a significant decrease in wrongful convictions. My biggest takeaway of all this is, no matter what obstacles try to block my path, Always, trust God. If he raised Jesus from the dead, there's nothing he can't resolve in my life.
Sincerely, Wendell
